6th January.
3 members of the patrol were murdered when the IRA triggered a ton of explosives at Burren Bridge on the Rathfriland to Castlewellan road, four other members of the patrol were also injured in the attack.

The device was denoted by a 250 yard command wire and left a crater 13 feet deep and 30 feet wide.

Private Colin Quinn.
Shot by the INLA while he left a printing firm in Fox Street, Belfast by two gunmen who fired about 10 rounds at him.

Harry Kirkpatrick a supergrass was jailed for 5 life sentences for this and 4 other murders.
